Surpassing Tata, Mahindra, Or Volvo, This Company Secures An Order For Over 2,100 Buses From The Maharashtra Government

Ashok Leyland, the country’s largest bus manufacturer, has bagged a mega order worth ₹ 982 cr from Maharashtra. The order by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation sees Ashok Leyland supply 2,104 new passenger buses. Deliveries would commence from next month. The deal will add to the Ashok Leyland fleet of buses being run by MMRTC. MMRTC is one of the largest government undertakings in the country, handling a fleet of over 15,000 buses. Ashok Leyland is among the top five bus manufacturing companies in the world.

Ashok Leyland, headquartered in Chennai, will ensure that the standards prescribed by CMVR are adhered to for the buses supplied to MMRTC. The buses shall conform to AIS-153 standards and be fitted with BS 6 emission technology, having an array with ‘197 HP-series’ engines. They will also be fitted with a real engine suspension system. The buses would be manufactured at the exclusive bus body plants of Ashok Leyland at Alwar in Rajasthan and Chennai. Managing Director and CEO Shenu Agarwal said the order reiterates Ashok Leyland’s commitment to producing modern products loaded with modern features.

The shares of Ashok Leyland were among the most active in early market trade on Tuesday. At 12:30 PM, it traded at ₹228.20, up marginally by 0.02%. At this price, the company commands a market capitalization of ₹66,979.91 crore. Its 52-week high is ₹245.60 while the low is ₹157.65.
