Actor Suriya joins the list of actors who have shared their concern towards the amendment of the 1952 Cinematograph Act. He shared a link where the general public can register their objection.

The central government announced the amendment of the Cinematograph Act of 1952. As per the new draft, the centre will possess a revisionary power that will enable it to re-examine the films that have already been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Many celebs like Anurag Kashyap, Nandita Das, Vetri Maaran, and Kamal Hassan opposed the amendment bill. As the latest addition to this list, actor Suriya has also expressed his views about it on his Twitter page.

He shared a tweet and wrote, “Law is written to protect the freedom of expression. Not to strangle the throats. #cinematographact2021 #FreedomOfExpression Today’s the last day, go ahead and file your objections!!”

Center released the draft Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill 2021 to the general public for comments until July 2. Since today is the last date, Suriya shared the official link of the petition and urged the public to sign it.

Before Suriya, it was actor Kamal Haasan who wrote about this Cinematograph Act on Twitter. In a tweet that he had made a couple of days ago, he wrote, “ Cinema, media and the literati cannot afford to be the three iconic monkeys of India. Seeing,  hearing, and speaking of impending evil is the only medication against attempts to injure and debilitate democracy.”
