‘Stop insulting Draupadi Murmu’: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju slams Congress over ‘dummy as President’ jibe

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju  lashed out at the Congress party after its Puducherry unit allegedly remarked that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants a dummy as President.
Taking to Twitter, Rijiju shared a screenshot of a tweet from the INC Puducherry handle which says, “The ruling BJP wants a dummy as President and at the same time they want to cheat the SC/ST community.” However, the Congress handle later deleted the tweet.
“Congress Party insulted Dr BR Ambedkar, PA Sangma, and many respectable SC/ST leaders. Now stop insulting Smt Droupadi Murmu ji, former Governor, Former Minister, and more than that, she has risen from a humble background through dedication and devotion,” Rijiju said.
The comment by the INC Puducherry drew a lot of criticism from the BJP, as the ruling party accused the opposition of insulting the tribal community and women. Blasting Congress’ tweet, BJP said that the opposition party was insulting the noted female tribal leader.
The ruling BJP on Tuesday named former Jharkhand governor Draupadi Murmu as the ruling National Democratic Alliance’s presidential candidate. If elected, the 64-year-old leader from Odisha will be the first tribal and the second woman to become the President of India.
National BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla wrote on Twitter, “Congress has started insulting Tribal Community & Women. Official handle of Congress labels Draupadi Murmu Ji as “dummy”. 1st woman tribal leader from Odisha to serve as Jharkhand Gov,2 time MLA, someone who worked her way up being insulted!!”
