Stop dragging Tipu Sultan’s name for vested interests, late Mysuru ruler’s descendants warn Congress and BJP

The politics in Karnataka seems to be on the boil in the run up to the upcoming state Assembly elections. The Congress and BJP using the name of 17th Century Mysuru ruler Tipu Sultan’s name has angered the descendants of the late monarch.
The 7th generation of Tipu Sultan descendants have warned BJP and Congress of legal action if they didn’t stop using Tipu Sultan’s name for their vested political interest.
“Every time there are elections, the name of Tipu Sultan is being dragged by politicians. It’s enough. Tipu Sultan has greatly contributed for the country and the region. He was a freedom fighter who fought against Britishers and his allies,” said Sahabzada Mansoor Ali, the 7th generation descendants of Tipu Sultan.
“Political leaders especially Congress should stop using Tipu Sultan’s name to polarise votes especially minority votes. Kindly, stop doing this, you (Congress) have not done anything to Tipu Sultan. You have not opened any library, research centres or colleges. If Congress and BJP don’t stop using Tipu’s name, our family will file defamation case against them,” added Sahabzada Mansoor Ali
On Wednesday, Karnataka Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan raked up controversy after he asked people people to ‘finish off’ former chief minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah the way Tipu Sultan was allegedly killed by Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda, two Vokkaliga chieftains.
In Karnataka, both Congress and BJP have used Tipu Sultan to attack each other especially during elections.
