In a shocking turn of events, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former MLA of Gurez, Faqeer Mohammad Khan, was found dead at his official residence in Tulsi Bagh, Srinagar, on Thursday. Officials reported that Khan was discovered in a pool of blood.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the circumstances surrounding his death may indicate a suicide, although authorities are continuing to look into the matter for further clarity. Khan’s untimely demise has left a void in the political landscape of Gurez, North Kashmir, where he was known as a prominent figure within the BJP.
Recently, Khan faced defeat in the assembly elections against National Conference candidate Nazir Gurezi, losing by a narrow margin despite being the BJP’s most successful candidate in the region. His political career and dedication to his constituents had earned him respect among his peers and supporters.
In response to the tragic news, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his condolences, describing Khan as “a true grassroots leader.” Abdullah extended heartfelt sympathies to Khan’s family and called for a two-minute silence in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly in honor of the deceased politician.
