Sri Lanka Pulled Off An Emphatic Test Series Victory By Defeating Bangladesh 1-0 – Prabath Jayasuriya Stars With A 5-fer

Sri Lanka wrapped up a dominant performance in Colombo, defeating Bangladesh by an innings and 78 runs to seal the two-match Test series 1-0. It was a statement win for the hosts, who bounced back strongly after a closely fought draw in Galle.

Bangladesh, who looked solid with the bat in the first Test, failed to replicate that form this time around. Opting to bat first again, they struggled to build partnerships and were bowled out for 247 on what was a good surface for batting. Despite some sloppy catching from the Sri Lankan fielders, the bowlers stuck to their task and kept the pressure on.

Pathum Nissanka’s Brilliance

In response, Sri Lanka piled on the runs. Pathum Nissanka led the way with a brilliant 158, his knock setting the tone for a commanding first innings. He was well-supported by Dinesh Chandimal and Kusal Mendis, both of whom made crucial contributions. Their efforts took Sri Lanka to a strong total, giving them a hefty first-innings lead of 211 runs.

Jayasuriya’s 5-fer Rattled Bangla Batters

That lead proved decisive. Bangladesh never really looked settled in their second innings, as Sri Lanka’s spinners took control of the game. Prabath Jayasuriya was the star with the ball, finishing with a five-wicket haul that dismantled the visitors’ batting lineup.

On the fourth morning, Sri Lanka needed just 33 deliveries to pick up the final four wickets, completing a comprehensive win in front of a jubilant home crowd.

This result will come as a boost for Sri Lanka, who were clinical with both bat and ball in Colombo. For Bangladesh, it’s back to the drawing board after a disappointing performance that undid the promise they showed in the series opener.
