‘Some Mumbai ex players can never be appreciative of the south’: Murali Vijay takes a dig at Sanjay Manjrekar

Former Indian opening batter Murali Vijay, who announced his retirement from international cricket last month, took a dig at former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar after he gave a surprising reaction when he got to know that among Indian players, Vijay tops the list of batters with the best conversion rates in Tests at home.
The incident happened during the second day’s play of the ongoing first Test of the four-match series between India and Australia in Nagpur. As Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who completed his half-century on the first day, was racing close to scoring his first Test century against Australia, the broadcaster showed a stat that talked about the batters with the best conversion rates in Test cricket for India at home. Vijay is ranked first in that category, with a conversation rate of 60%. He is followed by former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin, Polly Umrigar, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli.
When Manjrekar got to know that Vijay topped the list, he was a bit surprised. And taking note of his reaction, Vijay took to Twitter to share his reaction. He took a dig at him by writing, “Some Mumbai ex players can never be appreciative of the south ! #showsomelove #equality #fairplayforall @sanjaymanjrekar @BCCI.”
Vijay, who announced his retirement on January 30, 2023, played a total of 61 Tests for India, in which he scored 3982 runs at an average of 38.28. Out of those 61 Tests, 30 were played on Indian wickets. Vijay has 12 centuries and 15 fifties to his name in Test cricket overall.
Speaking about the ongoing first Test between India and Australia, India appears to be in cruise control of the proceedings. After dismissing the visitors for a below-par total of 177 runs in the first innings on Day 1, India reached 151 for 3 in 52 overs at the time of lunch on Day 2 of the first Test.
