Smoking incident on flight: Jyotiraditya Scindia says ‘no tolerance towards such behaviour’

Union Civil Aviation minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia  ordered an investigation into the incident of a social media influencer smoking on an international flight. Scindia shared that they are investigating the issue after a Twitter user tagged him in the video of the man smoking in the flight.
“Investigating it. There will be no tolerance towards such hazardous behaviour,” Scindia said. According to sources quoted by ToI, the person had travelled from Dubai to Delhi on SpiceJet flight SG-706, on January 21, 2022.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security confirmed to news agency ANI that the video is old and appropriate action was taken against Bobby at that time.
“The name of the suspect is Balwant Kataria (seated on 21B) who had arrived from Dubai along with three co-passengers by SpiceJet flight SG-706 on January 21, 2022. CCTV footage revealed that after arrival in Delhi, the passenger had cleared Immigration, collected his registered baggage and exited from terminal,” according to a senior official of a security agency.
The official further added that the Station Manager SpiceJet requested to enquire into the matter, take appropriate legal action against the suspect. Kataria’s video of smoking onboard a flight surfaced on social media on January 24. Following this, Indian security agencies commenced a probe.
