In an incident that has divided the cricket fraternity, Deepti’s clever run-out on the non-striker’s earned India a 16-run victory in a tense game at the Lord’s Cricket Ground as they secured a historic 3-0 series whitewash. However, the mode of the final dismissal became a huge talking point as the ‘Mankading’ debate once again took over social media.
On Monday, Deepti revealed in an interaction that she had warned Dean multiple times about herself leaving the crease too early and only when it did not stop that team decided to run her out. “It was a part of our plan because we had warned her and she was doing it again and again. Whatever we did was as per the rules. We had also told the umpire about it,” Deepti told reports after arriving in India.
However, England’s full-time captain Heather Knight has made a sensational claim and accused the Indian team of lying. Knight admitted what India did was well within the rules and there were deserved winners of the match and the series.
The game is over, Charlie was dismissed legitimately. India were deserved winners of the match and the series. But no warnings were given. They don’t need to be given, so it hasn’t made the dismissal any less legitimate. “But if they’re comfortable with the decision to affect the run out, India shouldn’t feel the need to justify it by lying about warnings,”said Knight in a series of tweets.
However, it is worth nothing that Knight is currently injured and out of action due to a hip injury. She was not a part of the Lord’s ODI or any game in the whole series and Amy Jones led England in both Knight and Nat Sciver’s absence.
