Islamabad United snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat for the second game in a row in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) as the Men in Red moved one step closer to sealing their spot in the top two. While the United needed 9 runs to win in the final over against the Quetta Gladiators, the situation against Multan Sultans was even worse with 18 runs needed in the final over, however, it was Faheem Ashraf to the rescue yet again and now they are level on points with Lahore Qalandars.
While United did win the game, the chase wasn’t as smooth as they lost both the openers inside the powerplay chasing a huge target of 206. Colin Munro and skipper Shadab Khan led their team’s fightback with a 59-run stand.
While Munro was dismissed on 40, Shadab continued on his merry run. Azam Khan was dismissed cheaply but Ashraf began from where he left off against the Gladiators. When it looked like the duo will take the United to win, Ihsanullah dismissed Shadab. Shadab was disappointed and angry with himself because he knew that there was a big score to be had there and his wicket gave Multan a window to come back into the game. Shadab yelled out a cuss word, “B*** c**d” loudly, which could be heard loudly and clearly on the stump mic. However, a Muhammad Wasim Jr cameo (16 off 7) and Ashraf going berserk in the final over against Mohammad Ilyas helped Islamabad get home with one ball remaining.
As Shadab posted pictures from the thrilling win on Instagram, Jimmy Neesham reacted hilariously to his stump mic outburst saying, “Why’d you shout at Ben Stokes when you got out?”
“@jimmyneesham because I was missing him,” Shadab replied. United will next take on Lahore Qalandars in the top-of-the-table clash on Thursday, March 9
