Serena Williams coy over future despite making Wimbledon return

Serena Williams marked her return to the Tennis court with a wild card entry into the Wimbledon. Into the grass-court tournament as the World No. 1,204 in the women’s singles category, Serena is in the spotlight not just for the Grand Slam but also for what the future holds for her.
Playing a doubles match with Ons Jabeur at Eastbourne, Serena emerged triumphant 2-6, 6-3, 13-11. While the preparations for Wimbledon have begun on a promising note, Serena is only taking one game at a time and not thinking about whether a full-fledged 2023 season would be a possibility for her or not.
“I’m literally taking it one day at a time,” she said. “I really took my time with my hamstring injury so I’m just not making a ton of decisions after this.”
When asked about her plans for the next year, Serena said she isn’t in a situation to answer that right now. But, it’s her love for the game that has brought her back to the court.
“I don’t know. I can’t answer that. I love tennis and I love playing, or else I wouldn’t be out here, right? But I also love what I do off the court, what I’ve built with Serena Ventures. It’s interesting, so it’s a lot.”
A serious hamstring injury had kept Serena away from the court for long. Spending so much time on the sidelines is bound to make anyone nervous. Serena’s case was no diferent.
“I would be dishonest if I said I wasn’t. Now my body feels great. It’s doubles, I’m only playing half the court. I’ve been doing a lot of training and it definitely feels good.”
The 7-time champion at the All England Club will be hoping to win her 24th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon. Having not played even one singles match over the last 12 months, Serena’s pursuit of the record-equalling title wouldn’t be the easiest.
