After resigning from the Indian National Congres, CR Kesavan, the grandson of India’s first Indian Governor-General C Rajagopalachari, hit out at the grand old party In an interaction with news agency ANI, Kesavan said he was “hurt” by many statements and positions maintained by Congress leaders.
“I can no longer in good conscience say that I concur with what the Party presently symbolises, stands for …” he wrote in his resignation letter addressed to party president Mallikarjun Kharge. “This is why I had recently declined an organisational responsibility at the national level and also refrained from participating in the Bharat Jodo Yatra,” he added.
While interacting with ANI, Kesavan said he was astonished by the rection of some of the Congressmen when President Droupadi Murmu‘s candidature was announced. “…first tribal woman, such a proud moment for every Indian… She’s come from such a humble background with sheer hard work and dedication. All of us should have been proud. This senior working Committee member of the party says she represents an ‘evil philosophy’. Another person says no country should get a president like this. No country should get a president like this,” Kesavan said.
He decided against joining the Bharat Jodo Yatra when he felt that his value system, faith and political conviction were not in line with the party.
He also came down heavily on his former party for questioning the Surgical Strike. If not comfortable, his colleagues had the choice remain mum instead of making such insensitive comments, he added.
“A senior leader in the Congress party asks where are the proof of the surgical strike. It’s very, very hurting – politics aside. This is when I looked around, I felt, honestly, I don’t belong here anymore. So I tended my resignation,” Kesavan said.
