In view of Karauli violence that left 35 people injured during a religious procession, Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in Jaipur till May 9.
As per the order, the gathering of crowds, protests, assemblies and processions without prior permission in the entire rural and urban area is prohibited.
The Karauli district of Rajasthan saw incidents of arson and vandalism on Saturday after stones were pelted at a motorcycle rally, which was passing through a Muslim-dominated locality area.
The rally was taken out to celebrate the Nav Samvatsar or Hindu new year by right-wing organisations, including the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bajrang Dal, police said. Nearly 35 people were injured in the violence.
So far, more than 40 people have been arrested and a special investigation team led by an Additional Superintendent of Police has been formed to probe the communal clashes.
During the communal clashes, houses and shops were also set ablaze.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has directed that criminals be identified at every police station level and strict action be taken against them to ensure such incidents do not happen again. He also said that the police should be proactive and take precautionary steps to maintain peace so that an incident like Karauli does not occur elsewhere.
The CM also said steps should be taken for creating an atmosphere of peace among different communities with the help of Community Liaison Groups (CLGs) and for promoting community policing.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the district with the deployment of nearly 12,000 policemen.
