Delhi Capitals started their campaign in the 2023 Women’s Premier League (WPL) in style with a stunning 60-run victory over heavyweights Royal Challengers Bangalore. It was skipper Meg Lanning and India’s U-19 World Cup-winning captain Shafali Varma who played a starring role as the duo put up a stunning 162-run opening partnership.
However, it was Jemimah Rodrigues who won the internet after the game by sharing an epic meme from the famous Telugu film ‘RRR.’ Jemimah shared the post after an image of herself and DC teammate Marizanne Kapp went viral on social media. The incident happened after Jemimah and Kapp asked for a DRS after a full was not given a no-ball. ‘SAME ENERGY,’ wrote Jemimah on Twitter, while tagging Kapp.
Talking about the match, Lanning made 72 runs while Shafali played a brilliant knock of 84 as DC put up a massive total of 223 on the board for the Capitals. Kapp made a 17-ball 39 while Jemimah made 22 runs in 15 balls as both batters remained unbeaten on the crease for DC after the RCB won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Apart from Smrit Mandhana’s quick 23-ball 35, the RCB top order stumbled and never got going in the chase. American cricketer Tara Norris created history for DC by becoming the first bowler in history to take a five-wicket haul in the Women’s Premier League. Heather Knight’s 21-ball 34 helped reduce the margin of defeat for RCB.
Jemimah was the third most expensive Indian player purchased at the auction after Mandhana and Deepti Sharma. The Capitals will next play the UP Warriors on March 7 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Jemimah shared a video from the game that showed her family members coming up with a special chant for her. Meanwhile, she was spotted showing some dance moves on the boundary line.
