Former batsman and current Team India head coach Rahul Dravid celebrated his 49th birthday on Tuesday, January 11. In his own admission, Dravid wasn’t quite sure how to feel on his birthday as he is growing older as the wishes poured in from all the corners for the legendary batsman.
Dravid, who represented India in 509 games across all formats is considered one of the best batsmen to ever play the game, especially in the Test matches being the only player to face more than 30,000 deliveries in the longest format – 31,258 to be exact. Dravid has amassed 13,288 runs in 164 Test matches at an average of 52.31 including 36 centuries and 63 half-centuries while scoring five double hundreds as well.
Speaking ahead of the third Test between India and South Africa about his birthday to the broadcaster, Dravid said, “When you get older, you’re not sure what to feel when you get wished on your birthday. But it feels nice. Did get a lot of wishes from friends and family.”
Indian cricket great Sachin Tendulkar led the cricketing fraternity’s wishes for the legend as he shared a nostalgic image wishing Dravid, “A very happy birthday to you Jammy. Wish you the best of health and good luck for the 3rd Test.” Dinesh Karthik, on the other hand, shared a meme from a TVC which said, “Bhaiya yeh deewar girti kyun nahi (Why doesn’t this wall doesn’t fall),” as he made the bowlers feel it.
Dravid’s former IPL franchises Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals too joined the wishing bandwagon while the likes of Suresh Raina, Shubman Gill, BCCI, Beijing Olympics gold medallist Abhinav Bindra too wished their best for him.
