Ruled out of IPL 2023, Jasprit Bumrah suggested back surgery by BCCI after recurring injury issues: Reports

Both the Indian cricket team and Mumbai Indians (MI) have been hit with a major blow as star pacer Jasprit Burmah is set for an extended period of the sidelines. Bumrah is set to miss the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and also the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which India have more or less qualified for.
A report by Espncricinfo states that the 29-year-old has been suggested back surgery by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Both the BCCI and the NCA are treating the Bumrah’s case of an urgent basis. BCCI and NCA will soon make a final decision on the next step in Bumrah’s recovery in coordination with each other as India do all that is possible to ensure he is fit for the 2023 World Cup.
Bumrah first missed the third ODI against England in June before it was revealed that a back injury will keep him out of the 2022 Asia Cup. The star pacer returned to action for the three-match T20I series against Australia in September and played two games. That turned out to be his last competitive game till date, as he missed the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Bumrah was named in India’s ODI squad for the Sri Lanka series but was pulled out of the squad on the eve of the series. Later, he also missed the home series against New Zealand as well as the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
Bumrah is a key member of India’s plans for the 2023 World Cup. The marquee tournament will be hosted by India in October-November this year. The 2023 Asia cup is the next marquee event for the Rohit Sharma-led side after the WTC final. The venue for the continental showpiece event is yet to be decided despite Pakistan being awarded the hosting rights.
