India is reeling severely under the second wave of the novel coronavirus. As a result, the cases remain on the rise whereas the death toll has also seen an upward spiral in such testing times, putting the healthcare workers and the entire medical department in a fix.
As a result, many celebrities, from different fields, are coming forward to extend their support in any way possible. After the likes of foreign cricketers such as Pat Cummins, Brett Lee and Nicholas Pooran’s generous donations, Rajasthan Royals’ pacer Jaydev Unadkat has also won hearts with his decision to donate 10 per cent of his IPL salary towards the relief work and contribute towards the nation.
As per a report in NDTV, the Covid infected over 3.84 lakh people and led to 3,894 deaths in the last 24 hours. Hence, the situation is quite grim in the entire country and Unadkat’s contribution won praises from all quarters.
Unadkat took to his official Twitter handle and shared a heartfelt post. “I am contributing 10% of my IPL salary towards providing essential medical resources for those in need. My family will make sure it reaches the right places. Jai Hind!” he wrote alongside the video message.
On Thursday (April 29), the one-time winners RR franchise also donated an amount over 1 million dollars (INR 7.5 crore) in India’s fight against the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“Rajasthan Royals is pleased to announce a contribution of INR 7.5 crores (over @1mn) towards Covid relief to help with immediate support to people in India impacted by the surge of the Covid-19 virus,” RR said in a statement
“Players along with the team owners and team management have come forward to raise funds and have been working along with the Rajasthan Royals’ philanthropic arm Royal Rajasthan Foundation (RRF) in partnership with the British Asian Trust (BAT). BAT works closely with the Indian government on many initiatives – especially in the area of skills and education. The Trust’s founder, Pirnce Charles, launched an emergency “Oxygen for India” appeal, which is currently focused on the acquisition and distribution of oxygen concentrators, devices that can provide the enriched gas straight from the air, to treat patients when hospitals supplies are under strain.
The funds raised by Rajasthan Royals will help pan India, with an initial focus on the state of Rajasthan, where the RRF, Chaired by Ranjit Barthakur, has numerous initiatives it continues to support. Having the team owners and its players come together has enabled this initiative to reach the scale it has, providing aid to tackle the current crisis and help people get the single most pressing necessity at this time,” the statement added.
Talking about RR’s run in IPL 2021, they lost to defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by 7 wickets in Delhi on Thursday. They will next meet Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday at the same venue. They currently occupy the seventh position in the points table.
