Team India haven’t played a Test match since their series against England in March 2024, but there is good news coming through for their top batters. Despite the long break, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Yashasvi Jaiswal have all moved upwards in the latest ICC rankings. Rohit Sharma is now the highest-ranked Indian batter at 5th position with 751 rating points. While Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli occupy the 6th and 7th positions with 740 and 737 points, respectively.
Their gains follow a gilt-edged performance from England’s Harry Brook in the third Test against Sri Lanka, managing to reach mere 19 and 3 runs in his innings. For that, Brook has slid to 12th position with 709 points. Babar Azam is at 11th with 712 points, closing in on the top ten.
With just a few points separating 3rd and 7th position in this order, this Indian trio can further go up the rankings order. That means they have a good possibility of going up to 3rd. India’s upcoming Test matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand will be important from the rankings perspective.
England’s Joe Root, though a shade off his best of late, remained the top-ranked batter with 879 rating points. He slipped 23 points after managing just 25 runs in the Test against Sri Lanka.
