India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel believes Rohit Sharma is a little ahead of Virat Kohli in terms of decision making in pressure situations and reading the game. Notably, Parthiv plays under the captaincy of Virat Kohli for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.
Currently, Virat Kohli leads India across formats with Rohit vice-captain in limited-overs cricket. There are constant calls for split captaincy in the Indian team since Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians to a fifth title in the IPL. Rohit Sharma has also led India to an Asia Cup title in Virat Kohli’s absence.
Virat Kohli is India’s most successful Test skipper with 33 wins in 55 tests, and India won 62 among 89 ODIs and 22 among 37 T20Is under him. Rohit Sharma led in 10 ODIs and 20 T20Is winning 8 and 16 games respectively.
Rohit, who was handed the MI captaincy mid-season in 2013, won the title that year, followed by victories in 2015, 2017. 2019, and 2020. On the other hand, Virat Kohli doesn’t have a single IPL trophy in his 8-year tenure leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
‘Rohit Sharma can read the game better’
“The point here is that who can make a better decision, who can read the game better? Who will make a decision in a pressure situation that will help the team win? And in that case, Rohit Sharma is a little ahead,” Parthiv Patel said while speaking on Star Sports Cricket Connected show.
Notably, Rohit Sharma, who was omitted on the basis of fitness grounds for all the three formats of the Australia tour, was named in the Test squad in the revised list released by BCCI. The 4-match Test series will start after the completion of ODI and T20 series’. The first Test will be played in Adelaide from December 17.
