‘Rohit ko bolo ghar me baithne ke liye’: Ajay Jadeja explains why he wants Indian skipper to miss 2nd B’desh Test

The Indian team registered a big 188-run win over Bangladesh in the first Test of a two-match series on Sunday (December 18). The visitors sealed the game in the first session of the final day’s play to maintain their winning record over Bangladesh and take a 1-0 lead in the red-ball assignment. In the first Test, the Indian team played without regular skipper Rohit Sharma. The 35-year-old batter suffered an injury during the 2nd ODI against Bangladesh on December 7, after which he was ruled out of the 3rd ODI as well as the Test series opener. However, it has been reported that the right-handed opening batsman has recovered and will soon travel to Bangladesh for the second Test.
In Rohit’s absence, Shubman Gill opened for India in the first Test and impressed with his performance. He scored his maiden Test century in the second innings of the game. But if Rohit becomes available for the second game, then he is most likely to get dropped. Rohit will bat at the top and will partner KL Rahul, who will continue to get support despite failing to fire in the series opener.
During an interaction with Sony Sports, when former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja was asked about who should make way for Rohit when he returns to the setup, the former batter gave a stunning reply. He said that Rohit should remain at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where he is completing his rehab.
Tabhi toh bol raha hu Rohit ko bolo ghar me baithne ke liye (That is why I suggest Rohit should stay at home). When a player suffers a hand fracture and you cannot hold the bat for about 10 days, even if you recover, you cannot really join the team the very next day. It takes another 10 to 15 days. And we don’t even know the extent of the injury yet. That is why I suggest this. We are looking for a temporary solution, and this is the best solution for it,” he said.
The second Test between India and Bangladesh will begin on December 22 in Dhaka.
