Ripun Bora joins TMC after resigning from Congress, says ‘party leaders fighting each other instead of countering BJP’

Congress leader Ripun Bora has tendered his resignation from the grand old party to join Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Bora joined TMC in the presence of Abhishek Banerjee and Sushmita Dev.
“Extending a very warm welcome to Ripun Bora, a stalwart and skilled politician, who joined the TMC family today. We are extremely pleased to have you onboard and look forward to working together for the well-being of our people,” tweeted Abhishek Banerjee.
In a letter addressed to Sonia Gandhi, Bora said that instead of fighting the BJP, party leaders are busy fighting each other for their vested interests.
The Assam Congress leader was the former President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, MP of Rajya Sabha for Assam and also served as Education Minister.
Expressing concern over the rise of the BJP, Bora called the saffron party a symbol of communal and divisive forces and termed its growth across the country a serious threat to the democracy, constitution and secularism and economy of India.
“But instead of fighting unitedly and aggressively to prevent BJP at this critical juncture the leaders of the grand old party are fighting each other for their vested interests,” Ripun Bora said.
Internal infighting has given BJP ample advantage to grow in every nook and corner which has demoralized millions of Congress workers of the country, he said.
Even in the 2021 Assam Assembly Election, people expected Congress to form the government but due to infighting by a section of senior-most leaders of Assam PCC, people lost faith and did not give a mandate to the grand old party.
Bora also alleged that instead of fighting the BJP, a section of senior leaders from Assam Congress have been maintaining secret understanding with the BJP government mainly with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“I shall continue my fight more vigorously against BJP, to protect the democracy, secularism and Constitution of India,” he added.
Bora has been associated with Indian National Congress since 1976 and has served the grand old party in different capacities.
