‘Retired baitha hu’: RP Singh makes hilarious request to Ashish Nehra, leaves others in splits

IPL 2022 Champions Gujarat Titans (GT) made some useful additions to their squad for the next edition of the tournament and drew the limelight with a couple of picks. While they bought Kane Williamson, Odean Smith, Urvil Patel and Mohit Sharma at their base price, the franchise had to shell out Rs 6 crore for Shivam Mavi, Rs 4.4 crore for Joshua Little and Rs 1.2 crore for KS Bharat.
GT strengthened their pace attack going into IPL 2023 and captain Hardik Pandya will have a lot more options to choose from. During the auction, GT head coach Ashish Nehra was talking to experts when RP Singh made a hilarious request to him.
Singh left Nehra and other experts in splits with his request & said: “UP key tez gendbaazo ko aap bhut tawajo de rahey hai. Shivam Mavi, Yash Dayal, Mohammed Shami… ek main yahan baitha hu, mein retired hu, mein support staff me kaam aa sakta hu. Aap mujhe bhi dekho, mein bhi UP ka hu..(I’m right here, I’m retired and can help you as a support staff!) You can consider me as well, I’m from UP!,” RP Singh said to Nehra (from 2:25)
A member of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup-winning squad, RP Singh played 14 Tests, 58 ODIs and 10 T20Is from 2005 to 2011. He scalped 40 wickets in Tests, 69 wickets in ODIs and 15 wickets in T20Is. In IPL, the left-arm pacer represented Deccan Chargers, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rising Pune Supergiants.
Singh scalped 90 wickets in 82 IPL matches. He played his last IPL game for Rising Pune Supergiants. Singh took over commentary after his retirement from the game and works as a cricket expert. Singh also joined Mumbai Indians as their talent scout.
