Renowned choreographer Remo D’Souza and his wife Lizelle D’Souza, have been booked by Maharashtra Police for allegedly defrauding a dance group of ₹11.96 crores. News agency PTI confirmed the development, reporting that a case has been registered against Remo his wife and five others in Thane district.
Others accused in the complaint include Rohit Jadhav, Frame Production Company, Vinod Raut, a policeman, Omprakash Shankar Chouhan, and Ramesh Gupta. A Police official has confirmed that they have started the investigation in this case.
The report was filed by a 26-year-old dancer who alleged that his troop was cheated by the aforementioned individuals between 2018 and July 2024. The troop participated in a television reality show and won but the accused pretended as winners of the show and took away the prize money. The complaint was registered on October 16 under the Sections 465 (forgery), 420 (cheating), and other relevant Indian Penal Code sections.
Who is Remo D’Souza?
Remo D’Souza is a renowned Indian choreographer, film director and producer, who has been working in the film industry for 25 years now. He has contributed to over 100 films including blockbusters like Ye Jawani Hai Deewani, Student of the Year, Kalank, Pardes, Race 3 and ABCD 2.
Besides films, he has judged reality shows such as Dance India Dance, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Dance Ke Superstars, DID Super Moms etc. Between 2018 and 2024 (the period specified in the complaint), Remo hosted Dance Plus, India’s Best Dancer, Hip Hop India, and Dance Plus Pro. Although details haven’t been revealed, the complainant’s allegations might pertain to one of these shows.
Born in Kerala, Remo married Lizelle, an Anglo-Indian from Mumbai, in 1999. Lizelle is a costume designer who has worked on various television shows.
