The recent floods in Fazilka district have deeply affected the common people. The flow of water and continuous rainfall submerged villages and panchayats, creating the worst hardships for rural residents. Acting on the Chief Minister’s directions, the Punjab government began working round the clock to bring the situation under control. During this disaster, the Mann government, along with social organizations, left no stone unturned in speeding up relief operations.
Within the Fazilka constituency, a total of 12 villages and 20 panchayats were completely inundated. Standing crops were destroyed, and heavy damage was inflicted on homes and roads alike. Local MLA Narinder Pal Singh personally visited the affected areas, guided the administration at every level, and ensured speedy relief measures, providing immediate assistance to the people.
Punjab Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond visited the flood-hit regions of Fazilka district and distributed essential relief material to families battling heavy rainfall and rising water levels. He interacted with local people and assured them of the government’s continued support in restoring normalcy. As part of the relief drive, food packets, medicines, and other necessities were distributed. With several villages submerged and farmland damaged, the state government has intensified efforts to provide immediate aid and long-term rehabilitation to flood victims.
Health services have been given top priority by the administration, as there is always a heightened risk of disease outbreaks after floods. To address this, eight 24/7 medical teams have been deployed across the district. These teams are visiting villages to deliver medicines and essential treatment. Additionally, 26 extra medical teams have been stationed in relief camps to ensure that no family is deprived of healthcare.
Despite the relief efforts, several tragic incidents occurred during the floods. In one area, four people were injured when a wall collapsed, but they were quickly taken to the hospital for treatment. Similarly, an electrocution incident was reported, but timely alertness of locals saved the victim’s life. In another case, a child slipped into the water and fell critically ill, but immediate ambulance support ensured timely treatment and saved the child’s life. During the floods, four women delivered their babies safely in the affected areas. One of them is still staying at the Slemepur relief camp, where both mother and newborn are completely safe. These rescues and medical efforts reflect the administration’s swift action and the tireless work of medical teams in protecting mothers and children even in crisis.
Delivering essential supplies to flood-hit families was another major challenge for the administration. Despite heavy waterlogging and damaged roads, nearly 3,800 families received food and relief material in a single round of distribution. This ensured that people had access to meals and support, bringing comfort even amid fear and uncertainty.
In this hour of crisis, Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond made a commendable contribution. He personally supervised relief operations, toured affected villages, and reached out directly to the people. His efforts went beyond distributing food and medicines—he also mobilized local youth to participate in the relief work, which accelerated the operations. His initiative not only supported the administration but also provided great relief to the flood-affected population.
The joint efforts of the government and social workers highlight that when tough times arise, administrative strength combined with social cooperation can overcome even the biggest disasters. Under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the government is working day and night, while ground-level officials are keeping a close watch on every problem. With these efforts, the people of Fazilka are slowly returning to normal life and hoping that this crisis will soon be left behind.
