One of Team India’s young sirens on the cricketing block, Ishan Kishan, who dons the 5-time IPL winning franchise, Mumbai Indians’ famed blue jersey, was named in the first 15-member Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
The marquee event is being held in the UAE and Oman from October 17, immediately after the second phase of the IPL 2021 is completed at the same venues.
Excited by the sensational news that was outed by the BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah, on Wednesday (September 8), the 23-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman was overjoyed upon realizing that he will be one of the youngest members of a famed Indian squad, upon whom rest enormous expectations as one of the favourite sides to win the elusive title at the showpiece event starting late October.
Kishan, who recently made his ODI debut for the Men in Blue against Sri Lanka in the bilateral limited-overs series, announced his arrival at the international stage of the gentleman’s game in style by becoming the first Indian cricketer to have struck a magnificent six on the first ball he faced of his ODI career.
The MI sensation posted a video on his Instagram handle, sharing his thoughts on what it means for the youngster to have been included in the star-studded Indian side captained by Virat Kohli, coached by Ravi Shastri, and mentored by the legendary MS Dhoni for the mega event in the Middle East.
“Really honoured, I wasn’t expecting my name to be there in the first 15. I think it’s a recognition of the hard work put in by my family and coaches. It’s a very big opportunity for me to step up for my country on the biggest platform of world cricket. I have seen your messages and I am overwhelmed. Thank you so much for your lovely wishes,” Kishan said in a video he shared from his official account.
In the meantime, Kishan will be seen featuring in another title favourites for the IPL 2021 trophy, Mumbai Indians’ team led by captain fantastic Rohit Sharma. MI begin its campaign against MSD’s CSK on September 19 in Dubai.
