Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said that his government would do everything in its power to ensure that Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the state get justice.
Days after taking a decision to grant more reservations to the SCs/STs, Bommai accused Congress of trying to mislead the public.
“We are ready to fight a legal battle to give justice to the SC/ST. You tried to break communities, including the Veera Shaiva-Lingayats, and also the backward communities, but now the Dalits have no fear because we are with them,” said Bommai at a public meeting in Vijayanagara district during the ‘Jana Sankalpa Yatra’.
The previous Congress government led by Siddaramaiah failed to empower the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, said Bommai.
The Karnataka CM also accused the Siddaramaiah government of not spending funds earmarked for SC/STs.
“Now, we have come up with schemes for the SC/ST communities, which will improve their condition,” said Bommai.
He further said that the Congress leaders, especially Siddaramaiah, should refrain from speaking ill of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalwart BS Yediyurappa.
“If you continue to speak ill of Yediyurappa, the people of the State will teach you a lesson,” said Bommai.
The Chief Minister also accused Congress of only promoting one community and remaining silent about the murders of BJP workers.
Bommai claimed that Congress undermined the Lokayukta institution by setting up the anti-corruption bureau merely to cover up its scams. Those who fear his government are those who indulge in illegal activities, drugs, and atrocities against women and Dalits, he added.
“Also, Congress is scared of our government because we have got the support of the masses,” said Bommai.
He also ridiculed Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. “Congress is a sinking ship due to which the Bharat Jodo has been started. Rahul Gandhi is tired while attempting to unite Siddaramaiah and Congress state president DK Shivakumar. How can he unite India with his Bharat Jodo Yatra,” said Bommai.
The Karnataka CM mocked ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, saying Congress for splitting the country into two to gain power.
“Those who gave rise to the Khalistan movement by supporting Bhindrawale, Naxalites who spread to 11 States and the LTTE are talking about Bharat Jodo today,” Bommai said.
In his view, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan, ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’, reflects the BJP’s vision.
