With Rohit Sharma-led Team India gearing up for their mouthwatering clash with Pakistan at the Asia Cup 2022, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has come up with an interesting observation about all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. All-rounder Jadeja’s campaign in the Caribbean was cut short due to an injury. The veteran all-rounder eventually featured in the first two matches of the recently concluded T20I series between India and the West Indies.
Jadeja sustained an injury to his right knee during the One Day International (ODI) series between India and the West Indies. Jadeja then warmed the bench in the third, fourth and 5th T20I of the West Indies series as the Indian think was keen on experimenting with the playing XI of the visitors. Jadeja, who has been India’s all-format player for several years, was named in the star-studded squad of the Indian side for the Asia Cup 2022.
Sharing a video about India’s possible squad for the T20 World Cup, Chopra discussed the cases of spinners who can lead the bowling attack of the Rohit-led side. Chopra named Yuzvendra Chahal as the first pick before shifting his focus to Jadeja. Chopra even claimed that Jadeja won’t turn out to be a wicket-taking bowler at the T20 World Cup 2022.”The second name on this list is interesting – Ravindra Jadeja. Jaddu will definitely play, this both you and I know, but he will not give you too many wickets, be ready for that. The mirror does not lie,” Chopra said.
“The wicket-taking ability has not been seen in the T20 internationals he has played or he has not picked up wickets. The IPL also tells the same story – played 10 matches in the last IPL – five wickets at an average of nearly 50, an economy of 7.50 and a strike rate close to 40,” Chopra added.
Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Jadeja has picked up 132 wickets from 210 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The star all-rounder has scalped 50 wickets for India in 62 T20Is. “Ravindra Jadeja, as good as he is, he will also bat and field, he is a package and is definitely seen playing in the XI, but he is not your wicket-taker. So don’t expect that he will suddenly start picking up a lot of wickets. The conditions are not going to be favorable to his bowling in any case,” Chopra concluded.
