Jayeshbhai Jordaar seems to have courted controversy for its trailer. The film that is set to release on May 13 stars Ranveer Singh in the titular role alongside Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak Shah, Shalini Pandey and Aparshakti Khurana in pivotal roles. The trailer upset people and the High Court went on to tell the makers that the ‘sex determination’ scene needs to be shown to them.
The court heard a motion to remove the scene from the film and then ordered the makers to show those parts of the film or permission will be denied. The makers of the film were also cautioned by the Delhi High Court to not ‘trivialise’ the illegal procedure of determining of sex of the fetus.
The TMT law practice team that represented Yash Raj Film at the court went on to release a statement and share an update on the same. Here are the details:
“The Hon’ble Delhi High Court today disposed of a Public Interest litigation which sought deletion of a scene from the upcoming film Jayeshbhai Jordaar. The petition was disposed off without allowing the Petitioner’s prayer of the deletion of the said scene, in terms of Yash Raj Film’s statement to insert an appropriate disclaimer at the relevant portions of the scene that was the subject matter of the trailer and the Petition. Accordingly, the film Jayeshbhai Jordaar will be released without any removal/cuts on the 13th of May as scheduled.”
The film tells the story of a son of a sarpanch who believes in equal rights for men and women in society. The film also touches upon the age-old belief of wanting a son to carry on the family’s legacy.
