Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor are all set to share screen space for the first time in Ayan Mukerji’s magnum opus Brahmastra. Slated for a September 9, 2022 release, the movie, as we all know, has been delayed on multiple occasions – 5 times to be precise. The film’s first announcement came in July 2014, and it was slated for a release on December 23, 2016 but was delayed by several years.
The release date was later moved to August 15, 2019, and later, to Christmas 2019 followed by summer of 2020 owing to leftover work on the visual effects and music. When the announcement of December 4, 2020 came in February 2020, the pandemic hit, and thereafter, it took all this time for the movie to finally have its final stamp on the release date – September 9, 2022.
Now, amid all of that, there’s obviously a lot of chatter around the fact as to whether or not the movie will be able to get numbers and does that affect the money it mints, or, to what extent does it affect the numbers.
Producer and film business expert Girish Johar spoke to us about the same, and he says, “I think whatever promotional material has been shared with the public and the media, and the way they are promoting the film, including the music, is relatively fresh. The audiences are not feeling an outdated feel to it, so despite the movie having taken 8 years, they are seeing it as a fresh film.”
Ask him if he thinks more than the delay, the current scenario of films at the box office is what might affect the movie, and he agrees. He said, “Yes, so that is what remains to be seen, that is the critical factor that remains to be seen. The trend right now is that no major films are working at the box office, but having said that, if we analyse the films which have not done well, the content was not upto the mark, and if Brahmastra has good content and the audiences really like it, I don’t think it should falter. It should have a good run at the box office.”
Brahmastra is indeed one of the much talked about film so far, and now, its to wait and watch how does it do at the box office after all.
