Ranbir Kapoor and Vaani Kapoor-starrer Shamshera was made on a massive budget of approximately Rs 150 crore. However, the film failed to garner footfalls at cinema halls leading to poor box office numbers. The film barely collected Rs 48 crore at the box office.
Now, actor Ranbir Kapoor broke his silence over the failure of the film and simply said that “the film didn’t work because the content wasn’t good”.
During the promotional event of Brahmastra in Delhi, when the media asked him about Shamshera‘s failure, he said, “If Shamshera didn’t run at the box office it means the audience didn’t like the film. The film didn’t work because the content wasn’t good.”
Earlier, actor Sanjay Dutt, who played the antagonist in the film, also opened up about the film’s failure. He shared a statement that read, “Shamshera will find its tribe someday but until it does, I stand resolute with the film, the memories we created, the bond we shared, and the laughs we had. the hardships we went through. I thank the whole unit – cast and crew of the film who stayed with the film for four years. Through the pandemic, through my own personal rough times.”
“Ranbir and I have forged a bond for life with this film. His craft and ability to depict emotionality on screen is par excellence. It pains to see how people we so eager to spew hatred on the work of one of the most hardworking and talented actors of our times. Art and our commitment for it transcends the hate coming our way. The love we feel for the film and its people goes beyond everything that’s being sold. Baaki kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna! #ShamsheralsOurs,” he added.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Ranbir is super excited for his upcoming release, Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva. The film also stars Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and others in pivotal roles. The film is scheduled to release on September 9.
Apart from Brahmastra, Ranbir will also be seen in Luv Ranjan’s untitled romantic film, with Shraddha Kapoor.
