The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on December 20 appointed Najam Sethi as the new PCB chief. Ramiz Raja, who was appointed for the role in September, 2021 has been sacked by PCB following Pakistan’s 3-0 loss against in the recently concluded historic Test series. It has been reported that Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday approved Sethi’s appointment as the new PCB chairman.
Touring Pakistan for the first time in 17 years, England overshadowed Pakistan in all departments of the game, winning the series 3-0. Pakistan management was heavily criticised, not only for the performance on the field, but also for producing poor wickets.
Raja, who was nominated directly on August 27, 2021 by the then Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan, is the fourth Test cricketer to become chairman after Ijaz Butt, Javed Burki and Abdul Hafeez Kardar. It was Raja’s second stint with the PCB, after serving as the PCB chief executive from 2003 to 2004.
