Indian Railways may restore on-board catering services soon and other passenger amenities soon. The Indian Railways, which was closed during Corona, is now slowly returning back on track. However, amenities provided to passengers during the journey, which are very important, haven’t begun yet, whether it is food served during the journey or the bed rolls, blankets found in AC coaches. According to sources of the Railway Board told Kundan Singh, there is a demand for re-starting these basic facilities is in full swing. And, in view of this, the Railways is considering starting these facilities soon.
IRCTC, which provides catering facility in the Railways, wants the catering service to be restored. So that instead of packed food, fresh food prepared in pantry tax can be provided to the passengers.
Catering is the core business of IRCTC, which has been closed for the last two years, in such situation it has also raised concerns that due to the closure of catering, there will be a negative sentiment on IRCTC’s stock and this will affect its share value. IRCTC’s parent company Railways and the Ministry of Railways has a bigger stake in it. Railways will also have to consider resuming the catering service to avoid this loss. Here the railways had conducted a survey regarding the catering service among the passengers.
In the survey conducted among about 20,000 passengers, the first choice of 80 per cent of passengers is cooked food and not the pre-cooked mill which is being served at present.
Here the committee was formed to look after the facilities of the passengers in the railways, PAC i.e. Passenger Amenities Committee has visited different railway stations and also took feedback from the passengers and railway workers. According to sources, the committee has also taken feed bats from railway personnel and passengers. People have demanded the restoration of catering services and the reintroduction of linen-blanket in trains. The committee can also give its suggestion on blanket-linen in trains before winter.
In the finding of the committee, the effect of the closure of the catering service has also affected the employment of lakhs of people. According to one figure, there are about 5 lakh people, directly and indirectly, involved in the catering.
