Rahul Gandhi Questions BJP’s Electoral Immunity: ‘No Anti-Incumbency Effect?’

With the rising contention surrounding the SIR policy, Rahul Gandhi on Thursday held a press conference, while raising doubts how BJP is not affected with anti-incumbency despite it hits every single party in every single democracy.

To further detail the nuances of the SIR policy, the MP from Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh, has used the hashtag #VoteChori to describe the SIR.

Detailing the matter in his LIVE, Rahul Gandhi said, “ LoP in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi says, “… Anti-incumbency is something that hits every single party in every single democracy. But for some reason, the BJP is the only party in a democratic framework that basically does not suffer this idea of anti-incumbency. Exit polls, opinion polls saying one thing, you saw in the Haryana election, you saw in the Madhya Pradesh election, and then suddenly the result goes in a completely different direction with massive swings. This also included our own internal polling, which is quite sophisticated. So, polling was showing us something, opinion polls were showing us something, regular polls were showing us something, and suddenly we are finding the result is in the opposite direction…”

Rahul Gandhi accused and raised allegations about more voters being added in just 5 months than in the past 5 years, followed by a sudden spike in voter turnout after 5:00 PM. He further stated that the crux of their argument is that the Maharashtra election was stolen.

Rahul said, “…In Maharashtra, the addition of more voters in 5 months than in 5 years raised our suspicions, and then a huge jump in voter turnout after 5 pm. In Vidhan Sabha, our alliance was wipedout and in Lok Sabha, our alliance sweeps. Very suspicious. We found that between Lok Sabha and the Vidhan Sabha, one crore new voters came into the game. We went to the election commission and wrote this article, and the crux of our argument was that the Maharashtra election was stolen. What is the crux of the problem? Voterlist is the property of this country. The Election Commission refuses to give us the Voterlist…And then something very interesting they did. They said we are going to destroy the CCTV footage. This was surprising to us because there was a question in Maharashtra about a massive voting after 5.30 PM for the numbers to add up. Our people knew that in the polling booths, no such thing happened. There was no massive voting after 5.30 pm. These two things made us believe with reasonable certainty that the Election Commission of India was colluding with the BJP to steal election.”

On the other hand, the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka has written a letter to Rahul Gandhi, stating- “It is understood that during a Press Conference held today, you mentioned the inclusion of ineligible electors and exclusion of eligible electors in the electoral rolls cited in paragraph 3. You are kindly requested to sign and return the enclosed Declaration/Oath under Rule 20(3)(b) of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, along with the name(s) of such elector(s) so that necessary proceedings can be initiated.”
