Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that some people were putting Indian democracy on trial and insulting the people of the nation, a thinly veiled jab at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
“The roots of Indian democracy draw from our history. No power in the world can damage the democratic tradition of our country. Yet some people are putting Indian democracy on trial…. Such people are insulting the people of Karnataka, its tradition and the 130 crore citizens of the country,” PM Modi said.
Speaking upon the opening of the new Indian Institute of Technology campus in Dharwad and the largest railway platform in the world at Hubballi’s Sri Siddharoodha Swami train station, among other projects.
We may assert that India is not only the largest democracy but also the mother of democracy, according to Modi, because it has historical democratic institutions like the Anubhava Mantap of social reformer Lord Basaveshwar. Modi lamented that Indian democracy was being questioned in the same city after he dedicated a Lord Basaveshwar statue there.
According to Modi, the BJP government was expanding the infrastructure in accordance with the needs of the populace. He criticised previous governments, saying that they had previously only launched road and railway projects based on their potential for political gain.
On his recent journey to Britain, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lambasted the Modi government at various rallies and stated that India’s democracy is under “brutal attack”. The Congress and BJP engaged in a political brawl as a result of Rahul’s comments.
