Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 340-km Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on November 16. The Purvanchal Expressway will start from village Chand Sarai in Lucknow and end in Haidariya village in Ghazipur district.
The project cost of Purvanchal Expressway is around Rs 22,494.66 crore, including the cost of land.
Purvanchal Expressway will also be used as an emergency runway for Indian Air Force aircrafts. It will allow fighter jets of the Indian Air Force to use it as an airstrip for emergency situations.
The Purvanchal Expressway originates from Lucknow’s Chand Sarai and goes to Haidaria in Ghazipur at the UP-Bihar border. The expressway will connect nine districts of eastern UP that are predominantly agricultural with the state capital Lucknow. It passes through Azamgarh, Barabanki, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Ambedkarnagar, Ghazipur, and Mau.
Here are five interesting facts about the Purvanchal Expressway that is expected to transform the under-developed regions in UP and bring economic growth:
- Purvanchal Expressway is a six-lane project that can be expanded to eight lanes. It is 340.824 kilometres long.
- The project is being developed on an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) basis.
- It is likely to enhance tourism in UP and boost agriculture, industrial and commercial activities. The Expressway is expected to attract investment in food processing, warehousing, handloom, dairy, etc.
- The completion of the Expressway is expected to save time, control pollution, save fuel and reduce the number of accidents.
- Purvanchal Expressway will also connect the districts in UP it passes through to Delhi via the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and the Greater Noida Yamuna Expressway.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath earlier said, “Earlier investments went out, but now investment is coming to the country from outside. Earlier people used to say that UP starts with potholes and ditches and now it is known for expressways and a network of four-lane roads.”
