Congress leader Manish Tewari has said that Punjab’s social cohesion continues to be its only bulwark against Pakistan-exported terror.
Lashing out at the Narendra Modi-led Union government, the Congress MP said that impeccable national security credentials and unflinching commitment to “Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiyat” are its twin insurance policies.
Unfortunately, Delhi does not understand Punjab, said Tewari adding that “errors continue”.
This is not the first time Tewari has expressed concern over Pakistan-backed terrorists trying to disrupt peace in Punjab.
In August 2021, he had expressed concern over illegal weapons and drugs being pushed into the Indian territory from across the border and wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah urging him to install anti-drone technologies to stop the smuggling of such items into Punjab.
He had also predicted that the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan has given strength to the divisive forces working in neighbouring Pakistan and it could be harmful to the interests of the Indian border states, particularly Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir.
The Congress leader said that ISI is continuously working to sabotage peace in India and everyone could see the smuggling of drugs and weapons into the Indian territory using drones.
Though our forces, which are on high alert, have successfully foiled many such bids, there are doubts that some of them may be successful in achieving targets, he had added.
With elections approaching, Pakistan’s Inter-State Services (ISI) is leaving no stone unturned to smuggle arms, ammunition and narcotics to derail the assembly elections in Punjab.
On Thursday, the Border Security Force (BSF) said that it has killed one Pakistani intruder on February 2 who crossed the International Border and entered into Indian territory near Border Out Post (BoP) of KS Wala in the Ferozepur sector.
