Ponniyin Selvan-I tells the tale of the early years of Arulmozhivarman (played by Jayam Ravi), a strong southern monarch who later rose to become the renowned Chola emperor, Rajaraja Chola I. It is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 historical novel of the same name. In the movie, Vikram portrayed Aditya Karikalan, who is the title character. The Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam actress played the role of Queen Nandini. Karthi played the role of Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan and received praise.
Trade analysts anticipate it will nudge closer to the 500-crore threshold. At this point, it is unknown if it will succeed in getting there. The movie’s sequel, which was filmed at the same time as part one, will be released sometime in 2023.
