Prithviraj Sukumaran apologises to parents of differently-abled children for hurting their sentiments

One of the famous Malayalam actors in the industry, Prithviraj Sukumaran’s recently released film Kaduva has been in the news due to a controversial dialogue against differently-abled people, which was delivered by Kuruvachan ( a role played by Prithviraj Sukumaran).
A couple of days ago, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities S.H. Panchapakesan had issued a notice to filmmaker Shaji Kailas and producers Supriya Menon and Listin Stephen, seeking an explanation for the alleged dialogues used against parents of differently-abled kids in the film. The order was based on a complaint filed by Parivaar, which is an association of parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Earlier today, (July 10) the Malayalam star took to the social media platform and shared a long note written in Malayalam and apologised to the parents of differently-abled children for his dialogue. He penned down, “Sorry. It was a mistake. We acknowledge and accept it.”
The dialogue was an exchange between Kuruvachan and Joseph Candy (essayed by Vivek Oberoi) where he reportedly said, “It is a mistake of parents when a child is born deformed.” However, in the apology statement the director also mentioned that, “When writing such a dialogue, when the screenwriter mentioned it, and when our hero prepares for the scene, I didn’t think about aspect of it either. The truth is, I want to show the cruetly of the villan and his actions. “
Coming back to the film, Kaduva is a high-octane action thriller film which is set in the 90s and hit the box office on July 7. However, the film is being claimed as a mass action entertainer and has earned Rs 15 cr so far. Being a pan-India movie, Kaduva was released in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi simultaneously.
