The abundance of cricketing talent in India is unparalleled. Breaking into the senior national team is getting tougher with every passing day, even for the finest of talents. Prithvi Shaw’s case has been no different. Having last played for India in July 2021, Shaw was overlooked for a place in the team for the tour of Ireland.
While the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi got the nod, Shaw remained on the sidelines. After the squad was picked, Shaw took to Instagram to share an inspirational post, that many fans reckon is in lieu of his latest snub.
With the senior players of the Indian team busy with the tour of England, many expected Shaw to be recalled considering the glimpses of the talent that he had shown in limited opportunities for India. But, the selectors had a few other names in mind.
“Don’t give up, your miracle is on the way,” read a quote by shared by Shaw on Instagram with a picture of Shirdi Sai Baba.
Shaw had a topsy-turvy Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign for Delhi Capitals where he suffered from severe health issues. Shaw was in the hospital for a few days with suspected typhoid. In total, he scored 283 runs for Delhi last season in 10 matches at a strike-rate of 153.
The young opener is presently busy with Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy campaign. In fact, Shaw was involved in an epic partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top of the batting order in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy semi-final with Uttar Pradesh.
The duo scored 66 runs for the opening wicket of which 64 were scored by Shaw.
As far as Shaw’s India future goes, his chances for the T20 World Cup 2022 remain pretty slim considering the competition for the opening spot. KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan look like the top contenders for two opening spots.
In such a case, it does look nearly impossible for Shaw to break through unless an injury concern emerges.
