It’s been a while since Mani Ratnam announced his highly ambitious project Ponniyin Selvan: I. The epic period drama boasts of an ensemble cast that includes superstars Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Vikram Prabhu among others. The film is going to be released in two parts and is based on 1955 novel Ponniyin Selvan.
It was announced yesterday that the first installment of the film will be releasing on September 30. And earlier today, the makers of the film went on to release the first-look posters that has not left fans impressed. Vikram as Chola’s crown prince Aditya Karikalan was handsome and one-of-a-kind while Karthi essays the role of Vanthiyathevan.
As the two looks go viral on the web, social media users aren’t impressed. Stating that the posters look like they’re fan made, the other fans went on to write that the posters “don’t look good” at all.
Apart from the posters getting a thumbs-down, numerous fans also went on to write that they want the makers of the film to release at least two character posters a day.
Coming back to the film, it’s being produced by Madras Talkies, and Lyca Productions. The film also stars Jayaram, Shobhita Dhulipala, Sarathkumar, R Parthiban, Prabhu, Prakash Raj and Rahman. The film’s music is composed by A R Rahman with cinematography by Ravi Varman.
