Noted filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: I finally released in the theatres last year and it emerged as one of the biggest Tamil hits of all time. The movie earned a whopping Rs 500 crore worldwide. Since then, fans have been waiting for the sequel of the period drama to hit the screens. It was recently announced that Ponniyin Selvan: II will release in the theatres in April this year. On Tuesday, Lyca Productions shared that it will screen in IMAX theatres.
PONNIYIN SELVAN: II TO RELEASE IN IMAX
The makers of Ponniyin Selvan on Tuesday announced the release details of the highly anticipated sequel of the Mani Ratnam film. It will release worldwide on April 28, 2023, in IMAX theatres. Lyca Productions announced that the Cholas are coming back to spread magic on the silver screen.
“Immerse yourself into the world of #PS once again in the grandeur of @IMAX! Come live this epic experience in IMAX THEATERS worldwide from April 28,” they wrote.
“PS and IMAX – a combination that was destined for each other! PS2 coming to an IMAX screen near you on April 28th, 2023!” said Mani Ratnam the director and producer of the film.

Mani Ratnam’s ambitious project, Ponniyin Selvan is a cinematic adaptation of author Kalki Krishnamurthy’s Tamil novel of the same name which was released in the form of a series during the 1950s. The period drama’s star cast includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala and Prabhu among others.
