PM Narendra Modi pens op-ed for Japanese newspaper, says India-Japan key pillars of stable, secure Indo-Pacific region

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his two-day visit to Japan to attend the Quad summit, he penned an op-ed on the vibrant relations between India and Japan, and said this partnership is a key pillar of a stable and secure Indo-Pacific region.
“Penned an op-ed on the vibrant relations between India and Japan. Ours is a partnership for peace, stability and prosperity. I trace the journey of our special friendship which completes 70 glorious years,” PM Modi tweeted.
Closer India-Japan cooperation is vital in the post-COVID world, the prime minister said in a series of tweets.
“Our nations are firmly committed to democratic values. Together, we are key pillars of a stable and secure Indo-Pacific region. I am equally glad that we are working closely in various multilateral forums as well,” he said.
PM Modi further said, “I have had the opportunity of regularly interacting with the Japanese people since my days as Gujarat CM.”
Japan’s developmental strides have always been admirable, the prime minister said, adding that the country is partnering with India in key sectors including infrastructure, technology, innovation, start-ups and more.
The op-ed was published in the Yomiuri Shimbun — a leading Japanese language newspaper — on Monday.
PM Modi visited Tokyo at the invitation of Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Arriving in Tokyo, he interacted with children ]waiting to welcome him outside the Hotel New Otani, where he will be staying during his trip.
During the two-day visit, the PM will participate in a summit of the Quad leaders and hold separate bilateral meetings with US President Joe Biden, Japanese PM Fumio Kishida and Australian PM-elect Anthony Albanese on the sidelines of the summit. He will also interact with Japanese business leaders and the vibrant Indian diaspora.
The Quad summit in Tokyo is the fourth interaction of Quad leaders. Their first virtual meeting was held in March 2021, the second was an in-person Summit in Washington DC in September 2021 and the third was again a virtual meeting in March 2022.
