Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly-constructed airport at Deoghar in Jharkhand on Tuesday, July 12. Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais will also be present on the occasion, said the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) in a statement.
With the inauguration of the airport, Deoghar will be connected to Kolkata, Patna and Ranchi under the government’s regional connectivity ‘UDAN’ scheme, . These routes are operationalised in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism, said MoCA.
Deoghar Airport will be the 68th destination which will be connected to Kolkata, Patna and Ranchi under UDAN. The first UDAN flight connecting Kolkata and Deoghar will be inaugurated on July 12, 2022. Connectivity to Patna and Ranchi will also be achieved soon.
An IndiGo flight connecting Kolkata and Deoghar will be launched from the airport on Tuesday and operations will begin from Thursday.
IndiGo, in a statement, said, “In line with its commitment to enhance domestic connectivity, IndiGo, India’s leading airline, today announced the launch of its 74th domestic and 99th overall destination. The airline will commence exclusive flights between Kolkata-Deoghar, effective July 12, 2022.” Sanjay Kumar, chief strategy and revenue officer, IndiGo, said, “We are pleased to announce Deoghar as the 74th destination on the 6E network. These new flights will enhance connectivity and significantly reduce transit time between Kolkata and Deoghar, from 7.5 hrs to less than 1.25 hrs.”
The Deoghar airport is spread over 657 acres has a 2,500-metre-long runway, which can handle the landing and takeoff of Airbus A320 planes. The airport also has a 5,130 square feet terminal building and six check-in counters that can serve 200 passengers at one time.
