The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, or PM Kisan is a government initiative that provides enrolled beneficiary farmers a Rs 6,000 annual financial support in three installments of 2,000 rupees each. Between April and July, the first installment is credited, followed by the second installment between August and November, and the third installment between December and March.
This scheme aims to supplement the financial needs of all landholding farmers’ families in procuring various inputs to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields, commensurate with the anticipated farm income as well as for domestic needs. Under this scheme, an amount of Rs 6,000 per year is released by the central government online directly into the bank accounts of the eligible farmers under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode to 14 crore farmers.
All small and marginal farmers will be eligible for a minimum income subsidy of Rs 6,000 per year under the scheme. Farmers with a total landholding/ownership of up to 2 hectares receive this annual subsidy benefit. The government has paid seven installments to these farmers since the scheme was initiated in December 2018.
