Plagiarism case filed against Ajith’s Valimai a YEAR after release

Ajith and director H Vinoth’s third collaboration Thunivu released in Theatres on January 11, 2023 and became a massive hit. The actor-director duo had collaborated for three films and now it turns out, their second collaboration Valimai, which released on February 24 last year has landed in legal soup.

Valimai, which gained over Rs 200 crore at the box office is now in trouble. Almost a year after release, a short film director Rajesh Raja has filed a complaint against the film at the Police commissioner’s office in Chennai. As per a report in ETimes, Rajesh Raja has reportedly claimed that the 10 scenes from his short film Thanga Sangli which was released in 2019 are similar to a few scenes from Ajith’s Valimai.

Reports further state that Rajesh tried meeting Vinoth several times to discuss the matter but was unable to meet the director. Subsequently, Rajesh has now reached oyt to the police commisioner’s office to find a solution to his problem. However, what has caught attention is the fact that the complaint has been filed almost a year after the film’s release.

About Valimai
Valimai is a2022 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by H. Vinoth, and produced by Boney Kapoor under Bayview Projects LLP in collaboration with Zee Studios. The film stars Ajith Kumar, Karthikeya, Huma Qureshi and Gurbani Judge. The film score is composed by Ghibran and the songs are composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film was in the news for a long time, due to the persuasion of fans to launch an update regarding the project, leading to a campaign named #ValimaiUpdate.
The film made a business of about ₹200 crore before release, with the inclusion of satellite, digital, audio and Hindi dubbing rights.The revised pre-release deal was reported to be around ₹300 crore, but was later revealed to be around ₹155 crore.
