High drama unfolded at Delhi airport after Delhi Police stopped senior Congress leader Pawan Khera from boarding IndiGo flight in connection with a case against him filed Assam.
A complaint was filed against Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera at Haflong police station in Assam for allegedly insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his father.
Pawan Khera was deplaned on Thursday after Delhi Police received a request from Assam Police to stop the Congress leader from boarding the plane. Khera was on way to Congress Plenary session in Chhattisgarh capital Raipur.
Following deboarding of Pawan Khera, other Congress leaders who were accompanying him at the Delhi airport tarmac staged a protest creating a scene at the spot.
What Pawan Khera actually said?
During a press conference by Pawan Khera in Mumbai demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee into Adani ‘stock manipulation’ issue, the Congress leader fumbled on taking the full name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a video that is now viral, the All India Congress committee spokesperson allegedly insulted PM Modi by raking half name of PM Modi’s father.
Name fumbling and ‘insult’
While talking about Adani issue, Pawan Khera intentionally or unintentionally replaced PM Narendra Damodar Das Modi’s name with his late father ‘Gautam Das’. Following his misspelling the name, there was a bout of laughter from Congress leaders and workers during the press conference.
However, Pawan Khera later apologised at the same time. Taking offence, BJP leader filed cases against the AICC spokesperson for allegedly insulting PM Modi and his late father.
Supreme Court interim bail to Pawan Khera
Soon after Khera’s arrest, Congress party approached Supreme Court seeking bail for the party leader. Congress leader and senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi defended Khera in the Supreme Court and secured bail for him.
Granting bail, CJI DY Chandrachud, “In order to protect the petitioner until such date as he applied for regular bail before jurisdictional court, till the next date of listing, petitioner shall be released on interim bail by magistrate.”
