Manu Bhaker made history at the Paris Olympics 2024 by winning a bronze medal in the women’s 10 meter air pistol event. This was India’s first medal in these Olympics. At 22, she is the first female shooter from India to win an Olympic medal. Previously, Rajvardhan Singh Rathore, Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang, and Vijay Kumar had won Olympic shooting medals for India.
Media reports say Manu’s net worth is about Rs 12 crore, which includes her earnings from competitions, ads, and other sources. In 2018, she won a gold medal at the Youth Olympics, and the Haryana government promised her Rs 2 crore. Bhaker criticized these promises as empty on social media, and her tweet has gone viral since her recent medal win.
Reports state that Bhaker’s father invested Rs 1.5 lakh to start her shooting career. Later, Olympic Gold Quest (OGQ), a non-profit organization that supports Indian athletes in winning Olympic gold medals, also backed her.
After Manu Bhaker won the Olympic medal, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated that around Rs 2 crore was spent on her training. He mentioned that Manu was sent to Germany and Switzerland for training and received financial assistance to hire her preferred coach. He emphasized that they are providing this support to all athletes to help them excel in national and international competitions.
