Premiere institutes are ready for a spectacular placement session, while firms like KPMG and Grant Thornton Bharat look to hire more this year.
The bigger cheques are back at IITs with packages crossing Rs 2 crore mark on the first day of placements. The first session of placements at the various campuses of the Indian Institute of Technology has seen a surge in not just the number of offers but also in the salaries. While last year the highest package offers at IIT-Roorkee was Rs 80 lakhs, this year, it has surged to Rs 2.15 crore.
Till now, top recruiters at IITs’ placement sessions have been Uber, JP Morgan Chase, Schlumberger, Graviton, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Texas Instrument, Bajaj, Qualcomm, Goldman Sachs, Walmart, Sprinklr, Paytm, Amazon, among many others.
With hiring sentiments gaining confidence, fresh graduates too have hopes high. In a recent report, Dun & Bradstreet said that 49 per cent of their respondents expected an increase in the size of their workforce employed during Q42021.
KPMG India has shared that this year (2021-22), their campus intake is 3 times higher than previous years. Sunit Sinha, Partner and Head, People, Performance and Culture, KPMG India shares that there has been a rise in the compensation this year. He adds, “Apart from the skills in finance & accounting, technology, risk etc we are now focused on ‘hot skills’ such as AI/ML engineers, data scientists, and ESG specialists.”
“Starting early in 2021, we had already initiated campus hiring processes and plan to hire around 500 graduates, under-graduates and professionals by the end of the year from colleges like SRCC, Kirorimal, Bhagat Singh, Venkateshwara, Dyal Singh, HR College, NM College, Christ College, and others. This also includes around 150 people from the ICAI campus,” shares Prashant Mehra, Partner & COO at Grant Thornton Bharat.
Companies are looking for both technical and softer skills for an ever-evolving workplace.
“Today it’s not just about which campus we go to – it’s also about the skills that are there on offer amongst the students – both technical and the softer skills to work in a dynamic, high learning and high impact work environment. Learning agility, ability to work with unstructured data, work in diverse teams and high empathy are just a few of these skills today,” says Sinha.
There has been a shift towards new-age firms heading to premiere institutes for on-campus recruitments. For instance, Ola Electric was the first-time recruiter at IIM Ahmedabad. The company participated in the core manufacturing and infra sector and gave 5 offers in cluster 3 of PGP Summers Placement 2021-22. Other new recruiters at the institute included Electronic Arts, GamesCraft, Ikigai Labs, Intelligence Node, ISDM Social and Rocket Learning.
The Summer Placements for the PGP and PGP-BA Class of 2021-23 of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore saw 542 offers, leading to all 513 students who appeared for placements being placed over two interview days. Some of the leading start-ups that offered internships included Navi Technologies, Unacademy, Byju’s, Udaan, LatentView Analytics, Licious, Purplle, and Swiggy.
