In the gentleman’s game, a wise captain always gives a special mention to the opposition after the conclusion of a contest. In the recently concluded contest between Pakistan and the Netherlands, the hosts came narrowly close to carving out a memorable win over the Babar Azam-led side. Netherlands suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Pakistan in the 3rd One Day International (ODI) of the bilateral series on Saturday at the Hazelaarweg Stadium in Rotterdam.
Since the Dutch side came close to upset Pakistan at home, it was expected from Babar to praise the spirited performance of the host nation in the post-match conference. Speaking to reporters after Pakistan’s thrilling win over the Netherlands, Babar ended up calling the Dutch bowling unit ‘Scotland bowlers’. “We tried our bench strength. Early on the ball wasn’t coming on well. We were short in the first innings. But credit to the Scotland bowlers who bowled very well,” Babar said in the post-match presentation.
Talking about the match, the Babar-led Pakistan side was bowled out for 206 in 49.4 overs. Babar played a sublime knock of 91 off 125 balls in the 3rd ODI between Pakistan and the Netherlands. Pakistan’s Naseem Shah bagged a match-winning five-wicket haul as the hosts were bowled out for 197 in the final-over thriller at Rotterdam. Pacer Naseem was named the Player of the Match for his bowling heroics.
“We are happy as a team. All credit to boys. They bowled very well in the second innings. He’s (Naseem) bowling very well with the new ball and in the death overs. Wasim also bowling well. And Dahani. We tried our bench strength. Early on the ball wasn’t coming on well. We were short in the first innings,” Babar said after the match. Babar-led Pakistan will meet arch-rivals India in its Asia Cup opener on Sunday.
