Pakistani star reveals reason for Men in Green’s consistent defeat against India in World Cup matches

In the World Cup (ODI & T20Is combined) history, India and Pakistan have come up against each other on 13 occasions, and of those, only once has Pakistan managed to get the better of India. Pakistan’s only win against India in World Cup history was against the Virat Kohli-led side in a T20 World Cup match last year in Dubai, when they chased down the target of 152 runs in 17.5 overs to win the match by 10 wickets and end the 29-year-long wait.
The two Asian giants met each other for the first time in a World Cup match during the 1992 edition, in which India won by 43 runs. The next meeting was in 1996 in Bengaluru, and on this occasion as well, the Men in Blue won by 39 runs. In fact, both these teams have played against each other on seven occasions in the ODI World Cup and on all seven occasions, India has won.
In the T20 World Cup history, they have faced each other on six occasions, and after suffering defeat in the first five, Pakistan finally won in their sixth attempt.
Pakistan enjoy a better record over India in ODI matches but aren’t able to enjoy success in World Cup games and, according to Pakistan cricketer Sohaib Maqsood, who has represented the side in 29 ODIs and 26 T20Is so far, the main reason for this is the overexcitement for the game.
“The reason for the Green Shirts’ consistent defeat against India in World Cup matches is because the Pakistani team became overexcited,” the 35-year-old told local media.”
“However, in the recent past, our team has started treating Indo-Pak matches normally and it has improved our performance too,” he added.
Maqsood was part of the Pakistani XI when India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in the 2014 T20 World Cup in Bangladesh. A year later, Maqsood also featured in a 76-run loss to India in the ODI World Cup match in Adelaide.
The next meeting between these arch rivals in the T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place on October 23 in Melbourne.
